When boats are on opposite tacks, a port-tack boat shall keep clear of a starboard-tack boat (RRS10). We see the boat coming and my crew (Rick Wojnar) expresses doubt and doesn't think we're going to make it. I was more optimistic, but I should have listened to Rick. Thankfully we avoided contact and sustained no damage. We did a single penalty turn because Appendix V (Alternative Penalties) was in effect for this regatta. Otherwise, we would have been required to take a 2-turn penalty.
